Event Naming Habits That Save Dashboard Rebuilds

Messy event names force analysts to rewrite dashboards every quarter. A few naming rules keep KPI reporting stable as your app grows.

Every app analytics health check we run in Nonthaburi and Bangkok offices eventually lands on naming. Events like button1_click or new_event_final2 become archaeological layers. When product ships a redesign, the old names stay in the warehouse while new ones appear beside them, and the KPI dashboard silently undercounts.

We recommend verb-object names with stable properties: checkout_completed with amount, currency, and payment_method; screen_viewed with screen_name. Avoid encoding UI chrome in the event name. Layouts change; the user action often does not.

Version your taxonomy document the same way you version release notes. When a property is deprecated, keep it readable in historical reports but stop writing it for new traffic. Your real-time KPI views should document which property generation they rely on so a future rebuild does not guess.

Spend an afternoon cleaning names before you invest in a polished dashboard. The reporting will stay trustworthy longer, and your retainer briefs will spend less time explaining discontinuities.
